Cash Portland - two décor - unpublished pending end usar approval

two décor at Cash, Portland

Project Highlights

  • We selected and installed decor items for twenty-seven lounge areas, three atriums, two Moter’s rooms, two meditation rooms, a game room, and multiple built-in shelving units.

  • From pillows to books, throws to planters, games to tissue box covers, we sourced colorful and graphic decor pieces to infuse Cash’s Portland outpost with a distinctly Cash vibe.

  • Drawing a thread across Cash spaces nationwide, we found a series of funky, super colorful, artist-painted Munny dolls for each of their locations, including Portland.

Lightening the mood with funky finds in bright colors

Our work at CashApp’s Portland office is a prime example of how two décor can transform a space. The company brought us in after the furniture was installed. While the interiors were beautiful—a striking ensemble of tans and whites—they didn’t yet have that Cash personality je ne sais quoi. As revealed by their app and Instagram, they lean into bright colors and zippy graphics.

Cash’s design direction pointed us toward an aesthetic that is funky, edgy, and a little bit high-end. They wanted graphic pops of black and white, as well as saturated colors—specifically lime green and fuchsia, their brand’s signature colors. Our team translated these requests into strong patterns, high-texture materials, and unconventional choices.

Cash Portland shows how small details can pack a punch. Since then, we’ve worked on other Cash projects, we’re grateful to collaborate with a client that understands how décor can make a space their own, and we loved revamping this particular office into very Cash-specific turf.

Working with two decor was very smooth and painless.
They are on top of things from start to finish!

Complementing warm, texture-rich architecture with furniture

When hunting down the exact-right décor, we buy local and strategic. Mostly, we shop online, which makes it easy to share with our partners and swap out options quickly. We try to shop sustainably by purchasing wares made in the U. S.—or even better, in the city or region where the project is located. Our ethical-shopping criteria means that we often seek brands that are women-owned and minority-owned. Because hyper-local identities, and supporting the local economy, have become so important to our clients, we’ve added in an allowance to shop locally for each project. This allows us to rifle through local flea markets, thrift stores, and home-goods shops for eclectic regional gems.

Kids at heart, we love finding toys that can infuse fun into a grownup context and make a design vision cohere. This “unboxing” picture, at left, shows the way the Basquiat-themed bear dolls pull color from so many different items at once—from the pillows’ greens and blues to the ceramic pot’s multicolor speckles.

For more décor-friendly kidding around, we introduced the funky Munny—a blank-canvas doll that had been custom-painted by Bay Area artist Felicia Ann. From a ton of options, we picked a few for Cash Portland and used more in other Cash locations, drawing a thread across their spaces nationwide with this ultra-playful artistic detail. In the image on the right, this marbleized Munny ties together the blues and greens of the books on all the different shelves. These targeted color pops move the eye around an area, creating a kind of visual storytelling that makes the space a great read.

Cooking up eye candy on kitchen shelves

Once their office kitchen was built, Cash reached out and asked us to bring the two décor touch to some shelving. The kitchen island with seating facing the shelves made this a prime stage for cute-things-to-ogle-while-grabbing-coffee. We swapped some idea-packed photos with Cash and got the green light.

With the first row of shelving reserved for cups and mugs for easy reachability, we filled out the rest, leaving space so employees can personalize this area with their own finds over time. Like everything else in the project, we injected this practical zone with fun and color. From gently-used blue and green books to ever-fresh banana bookends to inch worm-inspired ceramics, these shelves are chock full of the best kind of eye candy.

Pillow talk and other lounge seductions

Lounges are where two décor can unleash our love of upbeat—and offbeat—comfort. Adjacent to a kitchen and workstation area, this open lounge space above is built for serious decompressing —between bites or tasks. We gathered a bunch of bright homey touches—pillows in graphic patterns and signature colors, coffee table books, vases, and pots for plants. The little blue tray, at center left, is the kind of eye-catching detail lifts up the whole space.

In these other communal lounge areas, we let our pillow love run wild. We welcomed different sizes, shapes, patterns of pillows while threading a motif of blues, greens, and energetic graphics throughout. This is our M.O. for weaving a consistent identity across spaces, while ensuring each room has a little surprise.

Another workplace crush

Looking back at these pictures, we’re psyched to see how lively and charming these spaces are. All the crawling around on the floor, unpacking box after box, and pillow fights (just kidding) were worth it. And the best part: the happy looks on our clients who can’t wait to move in and get to work (and play with their new toys)!
